Methodology & data sources
Wingfarer aggregates and cross-references several open datasets:
- OurAirports (public domain) — airports, runways, frequencies, navaids and geography.
- OpenFlights (ODbL) — airlines, the routes they operate and the aircraft types used.
- Wikidata (CC0) — multilingual names, descriptions, passenger figures, photos and logos.
- Wikipedia (CC BY-SA) — encyclopaedic summaries, in each available language.
- Wikimedia Commons — airport photos and airline logos, each credited to its author and licence.
- NOAA / aviationweather.gov (public domain) — live METAR weather.
How figures are derived. Distances are great-circle (orthodromic) distances computed from airport coordinates. Flying times are estimates based on that distance at typical cruise speed plus taxi and climb — they are indicative, not schedule data. Airport names are shown in the local language where Wikidata provides a label, otherwise in English.
Freshness. Pages are generated automatically and the site is rebuilt regularly from the latest source data; live weather is fetched in real time. Figures may contain inaccuracies inherent to open data — corrections are welcome via our contact page.
